Pelmeni!

So I've been baking ALL DAY today. I made Cinnamon rolls earlier, then we made rolls out of the remaining dough. I love cooking. :) So, I decided I wanted to make a Russian dish called Pelmeni. It is kind of like a dumpling with meat inside of it... They were easy to make, and very fast to cook. And, THEY WERE SO CUTE!!! lol I used grain fed lamb and beef for the filling, although I think that just about any kind of meat would go in them. I'm going to try elk and deer next time. :) Here's some of the comments from my family...
"It squirted me when I took a bite!" My younger brother said, horrified. "Russians aren't very creative, meat and dough..." Said Devy, my oldest brother. When I asked my dad if he liked them he said, "I don't know..." My mother wasn't hungry. (She was making rolls).
So that's my story of the Pelmeni things... I liked them. First, I had a few plain with butter and salt, then I put some cheese and sour cream on them. They were awesome! I loved them a lot. I'll probably make some and freeze them for during the day or after school when I am hungary.

Russia is a lot like America in the way people react to their surroundings and such. There are four main religions, The RUssian Orthodox, Islam, Judaism, and Buddhism. привет (preevyet) and здравствойте (zdrasvooytye) are very common ways of greeting eachother. If you know the person, preevyet is the way to go. It is like saying "Hi" here. Zdrasvooytye is used to say "Hello" when you don't know a person. If someone greets you first with "preevyet" then it is safe to answere them with "preevyet." If not, then use Zdrasvooytye. The dating and marriage practices are like America. To be married you have to fill out paperwork. They also wear "normal" clothes. Торт (tort) is a dessert a lot like cake or pie. Кока-Кола (coca-cola) is coca-cola. Вода (vada) is water. Борщ (Borsh) is a russian beetroot soup.

Russia's major phisical features.

I am answereing the question: What are some of the phisical features of Russia?

The three main features are, bodies of water, mountains, and forests/land cover.

I will start with one of the bodies of water that is located in Russia.

Lake Baikal is the deepest fresh water lake in the world. It has more water volume in it than any other lake even though it doesn't cover much area. The bottom of the lake lies at about 1,285 meters below sea level. It has many islands like the Olkhon and Greater Ushkany islands. There are lots of fish that live in the lake. Some are Omul, Sor fish, Bottom Bullheads, Pelagic Bullheads, and Golomyanka. Villagers that live in towns around this lake fish for a living. Lake Baikal is also called the Pearl of Siberia.

There are many mountain ranges in Russia but I am going to choose the Ural Mountains to talk about.

In Russian they are called the Ура́льские го́ры, or the Uralskiye gory. They are also known as the Stone Belt. They run north and south throught the western part of Russia.They are usually considered the boudary between Europe and Asia. They extend 2,500 km from the Kazakh steppes to the Arctic ocean. They are among the world's oldest mountain ranges. The elevation is very high considering it's age. It is estimated to be around 250 to 300 million years old.

There are more forests in Russia than any other country. There are over one thousand million hectares, or 22% of the world's cover. That is larger than the USA. It was very hard to choose a forest, but I decided to go with the Komi Forests.

The Komi Forest runs along the eastern part of the Ural Mountains. It is the largest oldgrowth forest on the continent. Foreign timber companies are logging there. There are 3,280,000 hectares covered in this beautiful forest.

Vitas was born in Latvia on Feburary 19th, 1981. He is a singer, composer, fasion designer, and actor. He first appeared singing Opera 2 in Russia in 2000. He has unique stlyle in his singing. He is known for mixing pop and opera, as well as some techno, and hitting amazingly high and difficult notes.

Many people accuse him of lip synching. He doesn't. He proves it in some of his songs by pulling the microphone away from his voice, making the music dissapear, and randomly pulling it back while he's singing catching the noise in mid-note.


He was the 'Russian Citizen of the Year' last year.

Russian Project for 1st Quarter

Here it is!

Russia is a country in Northern Asia bordering the Arctic ocean, and extending to Europe and the Northern Pacific Ocean. The absolute location is from 60 degrees North to 100 degrees East. It is the largest country in the world. It is aproxamately 1.8 times bigger than the United States.

Russia's climate is mainly arctic and sub-arctic. It's winters are fridged in Siberia, and cool along the black sea. The summers are warm in the steppes, and cool along the arctic coast. Because if it's crazy climate, it is very hard to grow anything spectacular in Siberia. There is a belt of farmland that streatches from the Europe half of Russia down and across the southern part of Siberia.

Russia's government is now a Federation. It is called the Russian Federation. Their leader is Dmitry Medvedev.
